Water safety expert Lizzie Ward will represent a leading industry body at the UK’s major pool and spa show next week.
Lizzie, of Leek-based SAS Water, was chosen from hundreds of experts to speak at a Legionella Control Association (LCA) seminar being held as part of SPATEX, taking place in Coventry from 4 to 6 February.
It is the second year in succession that she has been chosen.
Lizzie said: “It’s a real honour to be asked to present on control measures for spa and hot tub safety by the LCA. More importantly, it’s a chance to pass on vital safety advice to the spa industry.
“Visiting a spa resort or using a home hot tub is a major treat but there’s an inherent danger that must be controlled. The aerated water in a spa pool must be carefully controlled to stop the growth of legionella bacteria, a serious form of pneumonia.
“I am a passionate believer that raising awareness on control measures is necessary and can save lives.”
Lizzie focuses a lot of her work on building public awareness of legionella in the workplace.
Spa pools are one of the most common sources of legionella and business owners have a duty to understand and monitor risk.
A legionella risk assessment is a requirement under the law and involves a detailed examination of a water system.
