Family-run business seeks memories of firm’s early days in Stoke-on-Trent

A family-run interiors firm is appealing for memories and photos of its early days in Stoke-on-Trent as it marks 55 years in business.

Curtains and Comfort, originally known as Tower Furnishing, was founded in Tunstall in 1969 by Harry Steele, taking its name from the nearby clock tower in Tower Square. The company later moved to Alsager High Street in 1975 before relocating to its current premises at Townend Business Park in 1995.

Now, as part of Stoke-on-Trent’s Centenary celebrations, Managing Director John Steele is hoping to gather memories, old photographs and even furnishings from the company’s early years to display in the showroom as a tribute to his late father, Harry, who passed away in 2008.

John, who was born the same year his father launched the business, said: “Reaching 55 years in business is a testament to the quality of our craftsmanship and service. We take pride in delivering high-end, tailored solutions that stand the test of time.

“Too often, homeowners rush to big chains without realising the value of a local, more sustainable family-run business like ours.”

He is particularly keen to hear from customers who may still have chairs, sofas or curtains made by Tower Furnishing in their homes.

Anyone with photographs, items or memories of the business can contact John at John@curtainsandcomfort.co.uk.
