Independent vet practice opens after £500,000 investment

A new independent veterinary practice has opened its doors in Stoke-on-Trent following a £500,000 investment by family-run group Harrison Family Vets

Located at Anchor Road retail park, the Longton practice is the eighth to be opened by the group, and features a range of stress-reducing facilities designed with animal welfare in mind.

The waiting area includes private ‘pet pods’ that help minimise anxiety by shielding pets from other animals, while other features include white noise, specialised lighting, pheromone scents and a treat station.

Separate dog and cat wards have also been installed, including Casco Wellpet kennels with heat pads, lighting and music therapy. Medical facilities include four vet consulting rooms, a dental suite with X-ray, a digital X-ray room, an operating theatre and ultrasonography equipment.

The group places emphasis on ‘fear-free care’, with all staff either having completed or currently undertaking Fear Free Accreditation training. Two of its practices, in Reading and Kingswinford, were the first outside North America to achieve Fear Free Veterinary Practice Certification.

Managing Director Tim Harrison said: “We are pushing the boundaries when it comes to delivering the very best five-star experience for pets visiting our practices. Every pet receives VIP treatment from the moment they arrive.

“There can be negativity surrounding the cost of veterinary care, but we combine affordability with first-class treatment. From bespoke kennels to a treat menu offering options like whitebait, liver paste, and cheese spread, we go the extra mile to make sure pets feel at home without breaking the bank for their owners.”

For the first three months, the new practice is waiving the usual £15 sign-up fee for the group’s Total Wellness Plan, which includes unlimited vet consultations, blood and urine wellness screening, preventative treatments and discounts on services. A £15 vaccination promotion is also available, which includes a full health check and a six-month follow-up.
