A historic Georgian building is set to be transformed into a premium workspace hub, thanks to a Staffordshire entrepreneur.
The former Rawlins Commercial Insurance premises, known as Ravenscliffe, has been vacant for a year but will soon be revitalised into a modern business centre.
Alastair Machin, a property developer and owner of document management experts Chaffinch, acquired the 6,500-square-foot Porthill building in a six-figure deal and has ambitious plans to create 17 serviced offices and professional workspaces.
The three-storey property on First Avenue comes with 42 parking spaces and is expected to attract a range of businesses, including health and wellbeing clinics.
Renovations are already underway, with a new roof and windows being installed, while internal refurbishments will begin soon, including a reception area, shared kitchen facilities, modern meeting rooms and high-speed broadband. The redesign will also feature an outdoor terrace and a community lounge.

An interior designer has been brought in to revitalise the space, with plans to restore the original Minton tiles in the reception area.
Alastair said: “Ravenscliffe is a stunning Georgian building. It has fantastic transport links and plenty of parking, making it an ideal location for businesses. We’re excited to be transforming this already beautiful building into a thriving, modern business hub that will offer high-quality serviced offices with excellent facilities.
“We want to create an exciting working environment where businesses can not only collaborate but grow, which can only be good for the local economy. We can’t wait to welcome our first tenants later this year.”
The development is expected to be completed by autumn, with the building set to achieve a Grade B EPC rating, a high energy efficiency for its age. Branding and a new website are in development to promote the workspace ahead of its launch.
