Lichfield’s city centre is set to come alive with entertainment, promotions and themed specials celebrating its nightlife scene.
Purple Flag Week kicks off in Lichfield today as part of a national initiative that recognises and promotes excellence in managing town and city centres in the evening.
Businesses have been encouraged to showcase what makes the city centre special and have come up with a whole host of ways to mark the occasion.
There will be live music throughout the week at The Feathers Inn, live entertainment at The King’s Head tomorrow and an open mic night there on Sunday and The Evie Ranford Duo will be performing at The Whippet Inn on Thursday.
At The Hub at St Marys, there will be purple themed cakes in the café and live music both tonight and tomorrow.
There will be purple-themed drinks and celebrations at The Angel Inn, The Dirty Cow, Duke of York, The George and Dragon, Le Reve, Ricco & Loren and The Spiritualist.
Meanwhile, guests can enjoy double loyalty points when they purchase purple products such as Plum Porter at The Beacon.
Other venues taking part include The Daily Grind and The Garrick, which will be lit purple and will be offering people the chance to win free show tickets and drinks.
The Purple Flag accreditation, much like the Blue Flag for beaches, is awarded to towns and cities that meet or surpass the standards of excellence in managing their evening and night-time economy.
Purple Flag Week runs from 23 to 30 May.
Councillor Janice Silvester-Hall, Cabinet Member for Visitor Economy, Ecology & Climate Change at Lichfield District Council, said: “Earning Purple Flag status is a testament to the hard work of our community, businesses, and local services. From great food and drink to live music and late-night shopping, Lichfield offers a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience in the evening. Purple Flag Week is a brilliant way to celebrate this success and invite even more people to experience what our district has to offer.”
