1 min read

Shoppers will be able to watch free circus performances and take part in workshops in a sneak preview of an upcoming theatre production.

Award-winning circus company Upswing is bringing three performers to The Potteries Centre in Hanley on Saturday, 3 May, to present a preview of its production Showdown, which will run at the New Vic Theatre from 8 May 8 to 10 May.

Visitors can catch two free performances from 11.30am to 12pm and 2pm to 2.30pm, featuring three circus performers competing in a light-hearted battle of skills.

After each show, young people can take part in a free 45-minute acrobatic workshop, led by the professionals. Workshops are suitable for those aged up to 18, although under 14s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and booking is essential via Eventbrite

Amy Whittaker, Centre Manager at The Potteries Centre, said: “Following the success of Upswing’s workshops and performances last year, we are delighted to welcome them back. Circus Throwdown offers something truly unique – allowing individuals to not only witness jaw-dropping performances but also get involved themselves.”

Artistic Director of Upswing Vicki Dela Amedume MBE added: “We are thrilled to return to The Potteries Centre, having had such an amazing turnout last year. We hope to see lots of new faces stepping into the spotlight and trying their hand at some circus tricks.”
