The celebrations will continue beyond Stoke-on-Trent Day and the People’s Parade with upcoming events ranging from special musical events to plays, festivals and fundraisers.
Here are 10 of the events and activities to look forward to:
- Secrets, scandals and the spin cycle of a small town life is the theme of an amateur production of Dirty Laundry presented by special arrangement with Deborah McAndrew and Claybody Theatre taking place at Stoke Rep Theatre between 10 and 14 June. Click here for more information.
- The City of Stoke-on-Trent Symphony Orchestra is holding a lively proms concert at the King’s Hall, in Stoke, on 13 June. Expect traditional classics and hidden gems. More information, as well as the chance to buy tickets, can be found here.
- Hanley Park and Trentham Gardens are holding special centenary parkruns on 14 June with commemorative medals for all of those who run, jog, walk or volunteer at the popular 5K courses. Medals will also be presented at junior centenary parkruns (2K courses for four to 14-year-olds) at Burslem Park and Longton Park on 15 June. Admission is free but participants must be registered with parkrun to join in.
- Stoke-on-Trent’s Centenary Celebration Concert will feature British music all written since gaining city status or has significance to the city. Tickets are available on the door of the King’s Hall on 28 June or in advance from North Staffs Symphony Orchestra’s website here.
- The Big Centenary Tea Party on 8 July aims to be a world record breaker. Read more about it in the Daily Focus story here.
- Leading Elvis Presley tribute artist Gordon Hendricks has two summer concerts lined up at the Mitchell Arts Centre, in Hanley, as part of SOT100. Tickets for the events on 25 and 26 July are available via this link.
- The YMCA North Staffs One Big Stokie Day being held at its Hanley headquarters on 25 July promises a free family fun day for all ages with activities, crafts, quizzes, food vendors and other stalls.
- Pop-up open-air exhibition Arthur Berry On The Streets will celebrate the life and work the cultural icon Arthur Berry in his centenary year. It will also feature some of the Three Counties Open Art Exhibition Arthur Berry Prize-winners. You can find it in the city centre from 4 August to 14 September before moving to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre between 20 September and 1 October.
- The Regent Theatre is the host of a Youth Celebration Day celebrating young people and hearing their opinions on the city and how we can improve it in the next 100 years. The event on 15 July will feature live performances, youth keynote speakers and more. Free tickets can be secured here.
- Strictly Knot Dancing, by Knot Events, will see 11 local business leaders take to the dance floor at the King’s Hall on 3 October with the aim of raising more than £50,000 for Dougie Mac.
