Just 110 more people are needed to sign up to Stoke-on-Trent’s world record-breaking centenary celebration to stage the biggest ever cream tea party.

Businesses are being urged to make up the numbers at Festival Park’s DoubleTree by Hilton Stoke-on-Trent (50 places), and the Victoria Hall, (60 places) on Tuesday, 8 July between 11am and 1pm.

So far almost 14,000 people have signed up to the event at 144 locations across the city. Stokies abroad are joining the fun from as far afield as Venice and Lanzarote.

Everyone who takes part at the DoubleTree, the Viccy Hall, or Stoke Minster will receive a free cream tea, but there are strict rules which must be met to satisfy Guinness Book of World Records adjudicators.

Everyone must agree to be photographed, they must stay for the whole two hour event and they must eat their cream tea and drink a cuppa.

Organiser Nicky Twemlow, of YMCA North Staffordshire, said the excitement was mounting but urged people to make up the numbers at the two remaining official venues.

She said: “It’s going to be a great day, celebrating 100 years of our city with a lovely cream tea and hopefully breaking the world record too.”

It couldn’t be easier to sign up. Just click here for event registration.
