A Tamworth paper packaging manufacturer is backing a Team GB athlete on his journey to the 2026 Winter Olympics.
South Staffordshire Paper Products, based on the Lichfield Road Industrial Estate since 2007, is supporting 27-year-old Olly Butterworth, a British soldier serving in the Parachute Regiment, as he trains to compete in the Olympic bobsleigh event in Cortina, Italy, next March.
The company produces a range of specialist paper products, including siliconised greaseproof paper used in bakeries and kitchens around the UK.
Nick Jones, Managing Director at South Staffordshire Paper Products, said: “We’re glad to be supporting British competitive sporting endeavour. We recognise that effort, speed, accuracy and dedication are all requirements of success, whether in exciting sports, like bobsled, or in keeping hundreds of businesses, large and small, provided with the best paper packaging materials.
“Our work may not be as glamourous or exciting as sliding down a mountain at 80mph, but we are just as dedicated to getting the job done right every single day as these brilliant athletes are. I find it fascinating that Olly will be sometimes competing in Nordic countries where the raw materials for our products are grown in huge, managed forests.”
In the lead-up to the Games, Olly will be taking part in a packed programme of bobsleigh and skeleton races, including the World Championships, which begin in November and continue through the winter at venues across the globe.
Olly said: “It’s a sports discipline that takes a great deal of effort and time to prepare for, and the races themselves are over so very quickly, with results decided on hundredths of a second time difference. So preparation is absolutely the key to gain those precious time fractions.
“I am so grateful to South Staffordshire Paper for recognising my potential and for their help in funding much of the specialist kit and training that I will be using.”
