A North Staffordshire training and conference centre is on the hunt for charities and good causes which could benefit from visitors looking to volunteer in the local community.

Yarnfield Park, near Stone, is preparing to host Christians from Seventh Day Adventist Church later this year and the group of 400 guests of Zimbabwean heritage would like to do some volunteering on the afternoon of Saturday, 1 November.

Any organisations within a 15-mile radius of Yarnfield Park who could benefit from their time have been asked to get in touch.

Projects the group can help with include:

  • Food banks – helping to create food packages and they will also donate food items
  • Shelters – they can provide clothing, food, toiletries
  • Singing in care homes for residents – they can bring along gifts for residents if advised what they are allowed to take
  • Cleaning of churches, village halls, homes, community centres etc – they will supply the cleaning materials but they would want to be accompanied if in peoples’ homes
  • Refuges – the guests can provide toys, toiletries, clothing etc
  • Refugee camps – could provide clothing, toiletries etc.

Laurina Rushworth, Director of Faith and Religious Groups at Yarnfield Park, said: “This fabulous group of women are part of a group from the Seventh Day Adventist church called DORCAS, so named after a woman from the bible who was known for her acts of kindness and charity.

“Gathering this year at Yarnfield Park for their conference, a large part of their Christian calling is to support local charities and those in need, and we hope that as many people as possible will help them realise this aspiration.”
