£500k makeover transforms The Greyhound – with further £1m investment planned

A new steakhouse bar and grill has opened after a pub’s £500k refurbishment – with an estimated £1 million of further investment still to come.

The Greyhound Inn at Yarlet welcomed its first customers on Wednesday evening after 12 months of work and waiting for planning approval.

The first night’s menu of Indian desi food will grow to include traditional British meals and steaks with weekly rotating specials.

The pub’s transformation has been the work of businessman Clive Owen of West Bromwich-based Greystone Group Holding and Greystone Construction.

His businesses have a history of refurbishing pubs and restaurants in and around Birmingham and they are behind three similar ventures in that area.

Clive has told Daily Focus that it is the size of the site which appealed and he has a four-phase plan to develop it.

He said: “It’s a 3.8-acre site, which we plan to make good use of. We’re looking to increase the number of bedrooms to form a hotel to go alongside the restaurant and restore the big field at the back.

“We’d like to have a marquee for weddings and events as well as glamping areas around there. Everything will be done with the local habitat and environment in mind.”

A glimpse at some of the food served on the first night.

The opening night was a last-minute affair after getting the go-ahead to open just hours before.

Indian mixed grills proved particularly popular but future menu additions are likely to include dishes such as roast dinners and fish and chips.

Work that has taken place there includes renewing all floors, revamping the kitchen, making the space more open plan and installing outside play equipment.

Clive added: “It has taken just over 12 months from taking over the property to get to this stage. I’d like to thank locals and potential customers for their patience and ask them to bear with us – we will have varied menus up and running within the next month.”

Staff were brought in from a sister establishment to help with the opening.

There are still a number of vacancies still to be filled at The Greyhound Inn at Yarlet, which is between Stafford and Stone.

They include general manager, restaurant and bar manager, and part-time positions for bar and service staff.
