Jobs safeguarded as waste firm business and assets are sold

Jobs have been safeguarded thanks to the sale of a Stoke-on-Trent waste firm’s business and assets.

Insolvency and restructuring practice Currie Young has completed the sale of Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre’s key assets to Hyper Waste Management.

The deal has safeguarded eight jobs and secures the future of the company’s waste processing operations under new ownership.

The sale transfers control of the site and operations to the Staffordshire-based Preece and Millward families.

Calvin Preece, Director of Hyper Waste Management, which is also based in Stoke-on-Trent, said: “This acquisition marks a new chapter for the business and the region. Our priority has been to safeguard jobs, work hand-in-hand with regulators, and put in place a strategy that ensures sustainable waste management for the future.”

Currie Young director Steve Currie.

Steve Currie of Currie Young acted jointly with Adam Harris and Natasha Brodie of global consultancy Forviz Mazars on the deal, working with Staffordshire Waste Recycling Centre’s stakeholders to identify a viable path forward.

A key element of the transaction was the novation of a long-term waste-to-energy fuel supply agreement with a major blue-chip power station.

Steve said: “We are pleased to have delivered a solution that not only protects jobs but also supports the region’s long-term environmental goals.

“Our team worked intensively to secure a deal that gives the business a future and ensures that it can continue to play a vital role in the region’s waste management strategy.”

The new management is already working closely with the Environment Agency to ensure responsible site clearance and sustainable operational planning going forward.
