Olympian to launch new swim school in Staffordshire

1 min read

Four-time Olympic medal winner and TV presenter Becky Adlington OBE is set to open a new swim school at a Staffordshire high school following ‘significant’ investment in the facilities.

Swim!, the national learn-to-swim provider founded by Becky and fellow Olympic swimmer Steve Parry MBE, will become the sole operator of swimming lessons at the school’s pool from January. The new swim school will see 10 to 15 jobs created, with the possibility of further positions depending on growth.

The business has invested ‘between £50,000 and £100,000’ into improvements to the plant room and changing rooms which will be completed by November. Despite the works, the pool has been able to stay open and deliver all national curriculum lessons since September.

The new centre, named Swim@ Stoke Blythe Bridge, will offer lessons for three- to 11-year-olds of all abilities, taught by fully qualified instructors. Children will learn in small groups of up to six, following bespoke lesson programmes designed to build confidence in the water.

Sessions, which will run after school into the evening on weekdays, as well as at weekends, will feature weekly themes to keep learners engaged. Parents can register their interest online to secure their child’s first month of lessons for just £10.

Becky, who is set to visit the Stoke-on-Trent area next month to deliver a water safety assembly to 11 schools and showcase her Olympic journey, said: “We’re really excited to be opening up at Blythe Bridge High School so that we can provide excellent learn to swim opportunities for children across Stoke and surrounding areas. Ensuring as many children as possible have access to swimming pools is an absolute priority of mine.

“We’re confident our swimming lessons will be the best in the area, and we can’t wait to meet all of the children and parents who come on their swimming journey with us.”
