Chef Thom Bateman has halted plans to open a pizza business at Leek’s Trestle Market.
The renowned pizza chef announced the venture – called Nanny J’s after his mum – in the summer after two years of working on the concept.
But personal reasons mean he is unable to take the concept forward at this time.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, which led the £3.4 million project to rejuvenate the town’s indoor markets, is now seeking another food or drink business for the unit.
Leek’s indoor markets reopened a year ago, with three new food and drink units created as part of the refurbishment.
Popular foodie brands Scrumbles Cake Shop and The Slamwich Club are already opening successfully from two of the units.

Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: “We’re saddened that Thom has made the difficult decision to step away but we understand why.
“This does, however, mean that we now have an opportunity for a food business to come and join us in Leek. The markets are thriving, busy places attracting shoppers and foodies alike so it’s an exciting chance to be a part of our success story.”
The building hosts a wide range of events including evening markets, cinema screenings, live music and larger town centre events such as the Christmas lights switch-on, Pride weekend and Day of the Dead.
