Staff training partnership bridges the gap between industry and the arts

Science consultancy firm Lucideon has joined forces with a local theatre company to develop a training programme for staff members.

The Stone-based firm has engaged Claybody Theatre, in Stoke-on-Trent, to develop responsive and bespoke training opportunities for groups and individuals within the company, helping them to improve their storytelling and communication skills.

Work so far has included presentation training for young apprentices, a storytelling workshop for the sales team, and one-to-one training.

Claybody has also met Lucideon’s US team online, with a view to visiting them in 2026.

Claybody’s co-artistic director Deborah McAndrew, who has led the training with director and academic Robert Marsden, said: “Lucideon are a fantastic company and it’s a pleasure for Claybody to get alongside the scientists – to understand what they do and collaborate on how our theatre experience and skills can help with storytelling, communication and presentation.”

She added: “Our partnership is a great way to bridge a gap between industry and the arts, and it explores how corporate training can be more responsive and embedded.”

Elizabeth Mart, operational finance director at Lucideon, said: “Lucideon believes that regular, direct contact with a working theatre company, and exposure to their practice, can build confidence in what STEM-focused colleagues can learn from the Arts in their own personal professional development.

“Claybody Theatre are a treasure for North Staffordshire and we have a great relationship with them. We trust them as excellent providers of development opportunities for our staff.”
