Free workplace NHS Health Checks to promote staff health and wellbeing

1 min read

Businesses across Staffordshire are being encouraged to sign up to an initiative offering free health checks in the workplace.

The Everyone Health team has been commissioned by Staffordshire County Council to deliver NHS Health Checks, which are for those aged 40 to 74 and are not currently on medication for heart disease, high cholesterol or diabetes.

The service is aimed at people who feel well but could potentially have an underlying health condition such as heart disease or type 2 diabetes.

Spotting conditions early often leads to more successful treatments and longer lives. In business, it can help towards reducing absence days and increase staff wellbeing.

The appointment takes 20 to 30 minutes, during which checks will be made relating to blood pressure, height, weight, BMI, waist measurement, cholesterol levels and type 2 diabetes risk.

Health and care equipment supplier Medequip welcomed Everyone Health to conduct health checks for its team in Stafford last year.

Operations manager Martyn Rowntree said: “Following these crucial health checks, it has been great to see the impact and change that the team have and are making daily, making healthier lifestyle choices and reaching out for further advice and additional support.”

He added that two members of the workforce were advised to visit their GP after receiving their health check results and they are now on life medication, preventing a more serious outcome further down the line.
