Business backing proves a lifeline for Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank

An independent charity has paid tribute to the role local businesses play in supporting its work and has thanked a medical equipment company for its ‘significant’ contribution.

The local operations of Closomat, which operates as Ceramic Product Design (CPD) in Stoke-on-Trent, have been helping boost provisions at Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank by funding a monthly Asda supermarket food delivery and becoming a ‘Business Friend’ of the organisation.

Closomat staff have also volunteered at the charity’s warehouse in Blurton.

Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank supports over 20,000 people each year, operating through 16 church-based centres run by volunteers.

Director of Service Corrine Boden said: “We couldn’t have done this without the help of businesses; enabling us to complete this huge task.

“The monthly Asda supermarket food delivery that Closomat have funded as a business has been a lifeline as a regular, reliable food source.

“It’s great to have local business teams working alongside our regular volunteers and staff, to get increased food volumes through at our busiest periods, and the CPD team really roll their sleeves up and muck in.”

Closomat HR Director Adele Entwistle, who has volunteered at the foodbank’s warehouse, added: “Visiting the warehouse really opened my eyes to the scale of what goes on to have enough for a buffer of three months food ready to go out in support of the local centres.”
