East Staffordshire Borough Council has extended its leisure contract with Everyone Active to 2034, alongside continued investment in facilities across the borough.
The agreement will see the operator continue managing Meadowside Leisure Centre, Uttoxeter Leisure Centre and Shobnall Leisure Complex, as well as the Active Communities Team, building on a partnership which began in 2019.
Recent and ongoing investment includes a £350,000 council-funded refurbishment of the village changing rooms at Meadowside Leisure Centre, due for completion this month, and an £85,000 joint project to deliver three new padel courts at Shobnall Leisure Complex.
The contract will now operate under an agency model, allowing the council to retain ownership and oversight of the facilities while the operator manages day-to-day services, with the aim of maintaining service quality and delivering value for money.
Everyone Active, which manages more than 240 leisure and cultural facilities nationwide in partnership with over 65 local authorities, has nearly four decades of experience in the sector. Under its management, Meadowside Leisure Centre was recently named ‘2025 Regional Public Club/Centre of the Year’ for the East Anglia and Midlands at the ukactive Awards.
Councillor Paul Walker, East Staffordshire Borough Council’s cabinet member for tourism and cultural development, said: “We are very excited at the prospect of continuing our working relationship with such a well-established leisure brand as Everyone Active. The Council is very proud of its inclusive leisure facilities and the services they provide for our local communities.
“We look forward to them going from strength to strength throughout the extended contract period, which will ensure that residents of the Borough continue to have access to a range of fantastic and affordable sports, leisure and health and wellbeing programmes”.
Dan Mclean, Everyone Active’s Area Contract Manager, added: “We are delighted to extend our relationship with East Staffordshire Borough Council and look forward to serving local communities for many years to come.
“We are confident that in continuing to add state-of-the-art facilities to our centres and evolving our innovative activity offering, we will encourage local people to improve their physical health and mental wellbeing.”
