Entrepreneurs from across Staffordshire pitched for investment at a Dragons’ Den-style panel on the historic grounds of Barlaston Hall yesterday.

The MOmentum VC fund, launched earlier this year by businessman Mo Chaudry, aims to support ambitious businesses looking to start, scale and create jobs across the region.

Following an application process which attracted interest from more than 140 businesses, Chapter Technologies, DPP Link and RxSure were invited to present their businesses to the MOmentum Table, chaired by Mo Chaudry and made up of experienced business leaders and advisers.

The panel included; Mo Chaudry, Momentum VC Founder and M Investment Group Chair, Shanie Chaudry-Goodall, M Investment Group Company Director, Max Thowless-Reeves, Investment Manager at Sorbus Partners Andy Price, External Finance Director and Chris Plant, Deputy Chief Executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce.

Mo said: “We wanted to create an opportunity for entrepreneurs to share ideas, challenge themselves and connect with experienced businesspeople in a completely unique setting.

“The three companies who came along, delivered some fantastic presentations. They asked some insightful questions and showed real ambition as business owners to grow their respective companies. The whole day has gone very well.

“I want to thank everyone who applied, those who pitched today and everyone who has supported Momentum VC’s event today, including the Chamber of Commerce. Each business will over the coming days receive individual feedback and as a panel we will be discussing next steps. I am excited to see and share what is coming next.”

The pitches took place at St John’s Church on the Barlaston Hall Estate, Mo’s new family home, which has historic links to Josiah Wedgwood.

Chris Plant, Deputy Chief Executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, said: “Staffordshire has some incredibly ambitious entrepreneurs and initiatives like MOmentum VC are so important in helping turn those ideas into long-term business success.

“The Chamber is proud to support a project which is giving businesses access not only to investment, but also valuable guidance, challenge and connections. Supporting entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for businesses to grow locally is vital for the future of our economy.”

Navid Kaleem from RxSure, who pitched for investment on the day, added: “It was a surreal experience, and I was honoured to be here. The panel gave some great feedback which we will be acting on.”

Further details about the next stage of the initiative are expected to be announced in the coming days.
