A specialist engineering training provider has marked its 60th anniversary with a £350,000 investment in a new state-of-the-art workshop aimed at meeting the rising demand for advanced skills training in the sector.

North Staffordshire Engineering Group Training Association (NSEG) has opened a new training academy at its headquarters in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

The facility features the latest industry equipment and will support Level 3 engineering apprenticeships.

Stoke-on-Trent Central MP Gareth Snell, who formally opened the workshop, said: “I welcomed the invitation to open the newly refurbished academy and machine shop. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise both the organisation’s 60‑year contribution to the local economy and its continued commitment to future skills and training.

“The impact this investment will have on learners, apprentices and employers across Stoke‑on‑Trent is invaluable.”

NSEG was founded as a charity in Silverdale in 1966 in response to the Engineering Industry Training Board levy scheme. It has since grown into a leading regional provider of engineering training and apprenticeships and employs 16 people.

In the past year, NSEG has dealt with 169 companies, training over 300 people, and facilitated 35 engineering apprenticeships

Chief executive Sarah Stanway said the investment reflects the organisation’s commitment to delivering high-quality training.

She said: “We pride ourselves in working closely with employers to develop the skilled workforce of the future.

“NSEG is a true partnership which comprises our members, board and employees. Each shares the vision of excellence in everything we do. Our industry insight and educational know-how, allows us to deliver relevant, impactful training that meets the evolving needs of the engineering sector.”
