New Greggs bakery set to create 20 jobs

1 min read

Plans for a new Greggs bakery and electric vehicle charging hub on the site of a former pub car park have been approved by Cannock Chase Council

The development, on East Cannock Road in Hednesford, will see a single-storey Greggs bakery built on land previously used as parking for the Globe Inn, which has been demolished.

The approved scheme includes a 130sqm bakery with customer seating, cycle parking, a delivery bay, an electric vehicle charging hub and 14 customer parking spaces, including accessible bays. There will also be outdoor seating at the front of the site, although no drive-thru is planned.

Proposed operating hours are from 6am to 11pm, seven days a week, although the applicant indicated in their submission that typical trading hours are expected to be shorter and are set locally by the store manager.

The scheme is expected to create 20 jobs, made up of two full-time and 18 part-time roles.

Considering the application, officers addressed concerns raised by neighbouring residents, including issues around publicity, alternative uses for the site, waste management, noise and potential anti-social behaviour.

The report stated: “Officers are satisfied that the development proposal will not cause undue levels of noise disturbance over and above the existing noise sources in the immediate area.

“Neighbour concerns in relation to vehicles congregating on the car park are noted. Although addressing anti-social behaviour doesn’t fall within the remit of planning, the end user (Greggs) has confirmed that appropriate action will be taken to prevent the site being used by vehicles and their drivers to congregate during hours that the site is not in operation, should this occur. These measures include CCTV, appropriate security lighting and deterrent mechanisms.”
