Singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan has been announced as the headline act at a free, family-friendly festival celebrating recovery, hope and substance-free living.
RecoverFest will return to Uttoxeter Racecourse between 12pm and 6pm on Sunday, 6 September, with thousands of people expected to attend to enjoy a day of live music, wellbeing, family activities and inspirational stories.
The event is designed to challenge the stigma surrounding addiction and celebrate the power of recovery. It is open to everyone – not just those in recovery.
Joining former X Factor contestant Lucy on the main stage will be a mix of local and national talent, including Amy Jo & The Spangles, Sons of Jericho, Detox Factor Live, The Song Loft, Dribbz, Shook, the V62 Choir and performances from Michelle Moss School of Dance, before the day finishes with a festival DJ set.
The festival’s wellbeing programme will feature Josh Connolly, one of the UK’s leading resilience speakers, an Amazon bestselling author, mental health advocate and founder of the global Breathing Space community.
He’ll be joined by Helena Cornes, who will be leading free yoga and meditation sessions, in the healing fields where there will also be drumming circles and cacao ceremonies designed to promote connection, wellbeing and recovery.
There will also be children’s entertainment, inflatables, family games, creative workshops, community stalls, food and drink vendors, recovery organisations, inspirational speakers and opportunities to connect with local support services.
Event organiser Sam Wilcox, of Purpose Comms, said: “RecoverFest is about showing what’s possible.
“It’s a day filled with music, laughter, families and community, where recovery is celebrated loudly and proudly.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Lucy Spraggan alongside an incredible line-up of artists and performers, and we hope it encourages even more people to come along, whether they’re in recovery themselves, supporting someone they love, or simply looking for a fantastic family day out.”
More than 3,000 people attended last year’s RecoverFest and organisers hope to develop it into a flagship Midlands event.
The festival is backed by Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council and is organised and delivered by STaRS (Staffordshire Treatment and Recovery System), a partnership of leading recovery organisations including MPFT Inclusion, BAC O’Connor, Betterway Recovery and Chase Recovery.
The event also brings together Stoke Community Drug and Alcohol Service (CDAS), delivered in partnership by WithYou and BAC O’Connor, and Stoke Recovery Service (SRS), delivered by The O’Connor Gateway Trust.
Support also comes from East Staffordshire Community Safety Partnership, the Staffordshire Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner, Trent & Dove and Reflex Print.
