More than a dozen volunteers from a housing and support provider have joined forces to tackle litter, fly-tipping and neglected communal spaces in a Stoke-on-Trent neighbourhood after responding to concerns raised by customers.
Colleagues from across Honeycomb Group joined the organisation’s Staffs Housing Gardening Team to improve the area around Churchbank Gardens and Madison Gardens in Tunstall.
They cut back an overgrown tree that was obstructing a communal walkway, removed bulky waste and litter from a fly-tipping hotspot, refreshed community gardens and collected around 20 bags of rubbish and garden waste from surrounding streets.
Estates Team Leader Dan Kemp, who organised the action, said: “Our customers told us there were areas of the community that needed attention, so we wanted to respond.
“Community Day gave colleagues from across the organisation the opportunity to work alongside one another, improve the neighbourhood and spend valuable time talking to customers.
“Seeing the difference it made and hearing how much it meant to local people made the day incredibly worthwhile.”
