Staffordshire’s visitor attractions are encouraging families to spend the school summer holidays closer to home, with dozens of days out available for £30 or less.
Visit Staffordshire’s 30 Under £30 campaign showcases dozens of free and low-cost family experiences that cost no more than £30 for a family of four.
Experiences and attractions include everything from outdoor adventures and heritage attractions to creative workshops, family trails and wildlife experiences.
At the National Memorial Arboretum, near Lichfield, visitors can enjoy free entry, play areas, trails and a packed summer programme including The Art of Remembrance.
Kids go free at Churnet Valley Railway when tickets are booked online in advance, meaning a family of five, with one adult and four children, can enjoy a steam train journey through the Staffordshire Moorlands countryside for just £20.
In Tamworth, the Snowdome’s Blizzard Quest every Monday in the school holidays features a giant snow slide, scavenger hunt, snowy treehouse and snowball fun for £30 for a family of four. Every Wednesday, there’s a mermaid and pirate pool party with floats, balls and noodles, the flume and music, priced at £7 for adults and £6.10 for children.
Youngsters will enjoy getting their hands dirty in the decorating studio at World of Wedgwood in Barlaston, where prices start from £7, and there are free family-friendly craft workshops on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the neighbouring V&A Wedgwood Collection.
There are Viking battles and living history displays during the free Viking event at Stafford Castle in August, a seaside holidays themed exhibition and creative activities at the Staffordshire History Centre and those who enjoy the great outdoors should try the National Forest’s new Coal and Canopy Way cycling route.
Favourite characters such as Bluey, Paddington and Peppa Pig are appearing at McArthurGlen West Midlands over the summer, and little ones can immerse themselves in imaginative role play at Adventure Mini Village in Stoke-on-Trent.

We have world-class attractions, beautiful countryside, rich heritage and fantastic family days out, all right here on our doorstep.
“Whether you’re looking to take advantage of our 30 Under £30 campaign, visit attractions like Alton Towers Resort or Drayton Manor Resort, get out into the National Forest, or enjoy places such as Baggeridge Country Park, there really is something for everyone.
“Staffordshire is a fantastic place to live, work and visit, and every visit to one of our attractions helps support local businesses, jobs and our economy. I hope residents and visitors alike make the most of what’s on offer this summer and create some great memories along the way.”
