Fitness facilities in Biddulph will receive a major upgrade as part of new investment approved by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
The fitness suite at MyActive Biddulph will be fitted with new cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, safety flooring and refreshed branding. A new fleet of technology-enabled indoor cycles will also be introduced.
The council said the improvements respond to customer feedback collected since MyActive took over the operation of the district’s leisure facilities in October 2024. The new equipment is expected to improve reliability and make the facilities accessible to a wider range of users.
Funding has also been agreed to improve Birchall Sports Pavilion in Leek, where the main function room and kitchen will be converted into a community café.
The café will provide a meeting place for people using Birchall playing fields, including sports clubs booking the pitches and athletics track. MyActive will also make the refurbished indoor space available for group activities, events and private hire.
Use of the pavilion increased while MyActive Leek was closed for redevelopment, while the introduction of a walking path and the establishment of events including parkrun have helped attract more people to the site.
Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: “The projects we’re funding in Biddulph and at Birchall deliver on both fronts. It’s great news which will make a real difference to MyActive users and the wider communities in these areas.”
The schemes form part of the council’s Leisure Transformation Plan. MyActive Leek has reopened following a major redevelopment, while designs are being finalised for an upgrade at MyActive Cheadle.
A larger redevelopment of MyActive Biddulph is also under review ahead of the creation of the new North Staffordshire Council in April 2028.
