Longton Banking Hub to bring face-to-face banking back to town

Work is set to begin on Longton’s new Banking Hub after hundreds of people signed a petition concerned about declining access to face‑to‑face banking services in the Stoke-on-Trent town.

Dr Allison Gardner, Stoke-on-Trent South MP, launched a petition earlier this year after residents and businesses raised concerns about the impact of losing traditional banking services.

Construction starts on the new hub on Monday, 5 October at the former Shoe Zone unit in Longton Exchange. Bosses from the shopping centre have been working with Cash Access UK to secure the premises and finalise legal arrangements.

The hubs are owned by Cash Access UK and operated in partnership with major banks through the Post Office.

Dr Gardner said the start of work represents “a win for everyone who signed the petition and made their voice heard.”

She added: “Keeping banking and cash access in Longton matters. It matters to residents who rely on face‑to‑face services, and it matters to local businesses who want to keep customers and spending in the town. This is another boost for Longton’s regeneration and shows what can be achieved when local people, organisations and elected representatives work together.”

The new Banking Hub will offer essential services including cash withdrawals and deposits, cheque deposits, balance enquiries and bill payments. Designated days for individual banks will be confirmed ahead of opening.

Longton Exchange Centre Manager Chris Ward said the development marks a new chapter for the former Shoe Zone unit.

He said: “We’re delighted to finally share this news. This project has been months in the making, and the Banking Hub will bring an important everyday service right into the heart of Longton. Longton Exchange is more than a place to shop — we want to play our part in supporting the community.”

The hub is expected to open around December 2026, following a full fit‑out of the premises.
