Staffordshire businesses are being invited to help inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists at an event drawing on the legacy of Spitfire designer Reginald Mitchell.
Proud Past, Brilliant Futures takes place in the Spitfire Gallery at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery on Thursday, 24 September, from 8.30am to 10am.
With the aircraft as its centrepiece, the gallery provides a fitting backdrop to discussions about how the engineering ingenuity associated with Mitchell and the region’s industrial heritage can inspire tomorrow’s workforce.
Organised by Operation Spitfire 4 Schools in partnership with Hays Education, the free breakfast event is expected to bring together around 100 school and careers leaders, employers and partners from across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
Businesses in engineering, manufacturing, science and technology are encouraged to attend, alongside other employers interested in developing stronger links with local schools.
Alice Archer said: “Through Operation Spitfire 4 Schools, we’re using the remarkable local story of Reginald Mitchell and the Spitfire to inspire the next generation, connecting Staffordshire’s extraordinary industrial heritage with the STEM skills, aspirations and future workforce that local employers will need.”
The programme combines classroom learning with practical activities, museum workshops and access to aviation specialists, encouraging pupils to explore careers in design, engineering and science. Find out more about Operation Spitfire 4 Schools.
The event will explore how employers and educators can work together from an earlier age to build children’s skills, confidence and ambition, linking pride in Staffordshire’s past with opportunities for its future.
Attendees will hear about the programme’s impact, opportunities for sponsorship and partnership, and ways businesses can support and inspire pupils. The session will also highlight wider examples of employer engagement and careers innovation across the city.
Attendance is free, with breakfast refreshments included. Spaces are limited.
Businesses can book their place through Eventbrite.
