Tamworth launches investment prospectus to target next wave of regeneration

1 min read

Tamworth Borough Council has launched a new investment prospectus aimed at attracting developers, businesses and investors to the Staffordshire town as it builds on more than £40 million of town centre regeneration.

The Tamworth Place Prospectus brings together a series of development opportunities while promoting the town’s strong transport links, established economy and growing visitor offer.

Tamworth has a population of around 81,000 and sits close to the M42, A5 and A38. Rail connections put Birmingham as little as 15 minutes away, while direct London Euston services take just over an hour. The prospectus says the town attracts more than three million visitors annually.

Its publication follows substantial investment in the town centre, including £21.6 million secured through the Government’s Future High Streets Fund. Projects have included improvements around St Editha’s Square, Town Hall Place and Castle Gateway, alongside new and refurbished business space.

Attention is now turning to the next generation of development sites.

Among the largest is Gungate, a strategic regeneration opportunity close to Tamworth railway station, where proposals are expected to have a strong residential focus alongside potential leisure, hotel and workspace uses.

The council is also seeking to explore the long-term potential of the Ankerside site, including opportunities for a broader retail, leisure and residential mix, while Marmion House is being considered for residential redevelopment.

Councillor Nova Arkney, portfolio holder for infrastructure and the local economy, said the aim was to “open up conversations with investors, developers and businesses” interested in being part of Tamworth’s continued growth.

The council is also offering investors support with premises, funding, skills and navigating the planning process.
