An award-winning restaurant staffed entirely by college students has reopened to the public, with a programme of guest chefs and speciality nights planned over the coming months.
Stuart Collins, a Great British Menu winner whose Whitchurch restaurant Docket is recognised by the Michelin Guide, will be appearing at Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group’s (NSCG) Riverbank Restaurant on Tuesday, 13 October.
His appearance is the first in a programme of special nights planned at the restaurant over the next academic year.
The restaurant, which overlooks Victoria Park in Stafford, is staffed by Stafford College students who gain hands-on experience of working in a professional restaurant while showcasing their skills to the public.
The menu changes monthly, and dishes are presented to fine dining standards.
Other appearances include Frank Haigh from the Lion & Pheasant in Shrewsbury on 2 February, George Lowe from Uttoxeter’s Lowes on Carter Street on 16 March, a representative from Aston Marina on 13 April, and Andrew Watts from The Plumicorn at The Tawny on 4 May.
Themed nights include game (17 November), Burns Night (19 and 26 January), steak and seafood (23 February), Spanish (11 May) and Best of British Menu (15 June).
A Christmas service at Riverbank has already sold out, but the restaurant is also open to members of the public on Tuesday evenings, and Thursday and Friday lunchtimes.
A three-course lunch costs £19.95, the lunchtime carvery is £15.50 for two courses and the menu costs £29.50 for three courses.
Tom Harrison, Curriculum Leader for Catering at NSCG, said: “We are delighted that the restaurant is officially open again for the academic year.
“Our learners are eager to showcase their skills and serve exceptional, high-quality food to our loyal customers.”
