A £125,000 appeal has been launched for a former Staffordshire headteacher fighting an aggressive form of cancer.
Holly Hartley, was at head at Thistley Hough Academy in Penkhull, Stoke-on-Trent, but her career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare type of thyroid cancer last year.
Holly’s cancer had reached ‘stage 4’. The disease has since spread to her lungs and her brain, according to her family who are spearheading the fundraising campaign.
The 47-year-old is now trying to fund her treatment privately to give her a fighting chance of beating the illness.
Relatives say she has already used up her pension – which was released early – and her life savings in her fight for life.
She is currently in the United States receiving treatment where her medical bills are expected to run into tens of thousands of pounds. She is hoping to return to the UK but the drugs she requires are not available on the NHS.

So far more than £26,000 of the £125,000 target has been raised.
Holly’s friend, Denise Burgess, who set up the page, said: “Anyone who knows Holly knows what an amazing, strong, and inspirational woman she is and one who has spent her whole life giving to others.
“Now it is time to ask for a little help to get her home to her wonderful girls and ease the immediate burden of extreme financial pressure she currently faces as a result of paying for treatment in the US.”
