A UK-leading retailer of bespoke computer systems, components and gaming accessories is gearing up for further growth following a £2.5 million move to bigger headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent.
Overclockers UK relocated to a 106,000 sq. ft office, tech lab, warehouse, and distribution complex at Etruria Valley this year after outgrowing its existing premises in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The company, part of the Pro Gamers Group, has experienced huge expansion since the mid-2000s. Turnover now stands at £75 million, and the number of staff has trebled in size in just over a decade to around the 100 mark.
And to top off a great year, Overclockers UK also scooped accolades for best eCommerce site of the year and best Digital Marketing Campaign for Refract Gaming PCs at the Ecommerce Awards 2023.
The new premises, pictured above, offers three times the capacity of previous warehousing space the company had, which was spread over three sites in North Staffordshire.
Managing Director Steve Ling said: “Because we have all our facilities and services under one roof it makes it much more efficient and logistically easier to build, store and ship the products, which in turn makes it a more efficient service for customers.
“We are in a geographically prominent position too, so it has raised our profile locally and we also have excellent access to major transport links.
“We chose the size because it also has spare capacity to expand as we anticipate further growth and further employment opportunities on an ongoing basis.”
Part of Overclockers’ appeal to PC enthusiasts is its ability to build one-off customised machines – from the hardware that powers them to the distinctive exterior designs.
To this end, as well as a dedicated build and test facility on site, it also has an in-house CNC cutting machine and paint booth to ramp up the bespoke offer.
As a result, it is now shipping out more than thousands of products a day to PC and gamer enthusiasts around the country. Some of these are celebrities, including actor Warwick Davis from films such as Star Wars and Harry Potter to musician Dougie Poynter from McFly.
Big companies are also turning to Overclockers for their expertise – customers include Formula 1 teams and film studios that need high-end machines.
Steven Levitt, UK Business Development Manager, said: “Because we build the machines in-house customers can range from casual gamers who want something around the £700 to £3,000 mark up to individuals and companies that need intensive processor power and are looking for machines that are £30,000 plus.
“We also have an incredibly good reputation for hardware research and development, so we are sent products from major IT companies like Intel, AMD and Nvidia to test and optimise.
“It’s incredible to think that Silicon Valley-based corporations are coming to us in Stoke-on-Trent for help and advice in this way but that demonstrates the specialism we are able to bring here.”
