Bucking the industry trend: ex-business banker makes impact by offering a more personal service

From setting up a solo business seven years ago with a budget laptop to being named in the Credit 500 Index – ex-corporate banker Tom Wilkinson is building a nationwide reputation.

His firm Beta Commercial Finance based in Alton in Staffordshire Moorlands is a commercial finance broker providing a service to companies looking to purchase premises, invest in new equipment and scale up their business activities.

When he went solo after more than a decade in business banking Tom was aiming to provide a personal service to clients in an industry where companies increasingly miss a friendly relationship with their bank manager.

Beta CF’s offering has proved widely popular, supporting companies across the UK and building an especially strong reputation in Staffordshire and Derbyshire where it has helped many clients to survive, thrive and create new jobs.

The broker, based at the Old Chapel, Alton, recently recruited its fifth member of staff – Brogan Alexander, a former Lloyds Bank business manager, who joined as a Commercial Finance Manager.

Managing Director Tom said: “Up until the turn of the century, companies would have had a relationship with their bank business manager and relied solely on him or her as a source of advice and finance. That’s all changed. We provide that strong relationship and search the whole of the market to get the right deal for each client.

“We work hard to ensure we can provide the best solutions to business looking for funding and on building vital relationships with providers in the commercial funding markets.”

Beta CF is shortlisted in the Commercial Mortgage Introducer of the Year and Development Finance Broker of the Year categories at the upcoming Business Moneyfacts Awards
