Local businesses invited to shape future of Station Road

1 min read

Local businesses have been invited to participate in Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s consultation on proposed improvements to Station Road.

The council was awarded £29 million by the Department for Transport through the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), which sets out to transform how people move around the city, address current infrastructure challenges, and create a better connection between the railway station, city centre and key employment sites across the area.

The proposals on Station Road aim to enhance Stoke-on-Trent station as the gateway to the city, whilst improving pedestrian, cycle and bus connections.

The improvements include:

  • Widening the public area outside the station, with new street furniture, to enhance the sense of arrival to Stoke-on-Trent
  • Introducing a bus gate in front of the station, accessible to buses, taxis, cyclists and certain limited business vehicles. This will reduce traffic in the area and create a more pedestrian and cycle-friendly environment in a busy area for students, workers and rail travellers
  • Widening the footways along Station Road to improve the pedestrian route
  • Installing new bus shelters to the east and west of the station

The plans would maintain access to the station and local businesses.
