Forty members of the Tara Group team have helped to raise over £23,000 for three charities by completing an 85km walk of the Jurassic Coast.
Employees from Chasetown-based Tara Group’s three companies, Cameron Homes, Chasetown Civil Engineering and Keon Homes, took on the challenge to mark milestones being celebrated by each of them this year.
This year marks 50 years of Chasetown Civil Engineering, 30 years of Cameron Homes and five years of Keon Homes.
The teams combined the years into kilometres for the challenge, which began at Clavell Tower in Kimmeridge Bay and ended at the iconic Golden Cap and raised £23,258.
The fundraiser took two days to complete and raised money for Spark Burntwood, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and The Lighthouse Club, a construction industry charity.
A total of £18,758 was raised by the group, with an additional £4,500 donation made by Tara Group’s charitable trust, The Noel Sweeney Foundation, which was created in memory of the group’s founder, Noel Sweeney who died in 2020.
Simon Wilson, Head of Build at Keon Homes, said: “We wanted to do the challenge to raise some well needed funds for some amazing charities that have impacted the lives of various employees within the Tara Group.
“The weekend was a tough endurance challenge, which was filled with spectacular views and stunning landscapes to walk through. The camaraderie, and the thought of all the good that the money raised would do for the charities, is what pushed the group on to complete the challenge.”
Euan Grant, Managing Director at Chasetown Civil Engineering, said: “It was a fantastic teambuilding exercise with members of all three Tara Group businesses completing the challenge together, alongside members of the Sweeney family.”
Paul Morrissey, Operations Director at Cameron Homes, said: “The walk was the most physical and mentally challenging experience that I have ever participated in. We each walked more than 120,000 steps, covering over 2,000 metres of ascent on a very challenging terrain.
“It was a great team effort with everybody supporting each other and we earned every penny raised for the three amazing charities. Thank you very much to all that sponsored us.”
