GivEnergy to boost grid services after making acquisition

1 min read

GivEnergy has acquired energy aggregator Orange Power in a move which it says will help businesses in their decarbonisation efforts.

The energy storage manufacturer, which has its global base in Newcastle-under-Lyme, says the acquisition marks a significant step in its grid service capabilities – enabling commercial battery owners to unlock new and previously unavailable revenue streams.

Orange Power coordinates and aggregates energy savings across nationwide battery assets when the grid is stressed.

GivEnergy hopes plugging into and developing the Orange Power platform will bring new capabilities in the grid services space.

Commercial and fleet partners using GivEnergy’s battery energy storage systems (BESS) will be able to support the grid by exporting the clean energy stored in their batteries, leading to financial rewards.

Jason Howlett, Global CEO at GivEnergy, pictured above, said: “We are thrilled to welcome the Orange Power team into the GivEnergy family.

“The acquisition aligns perfectly with our goal of cleaning up the UK’s energy landscape, particularly as it pertains to Smart Energy Devices and their role in supporting and stabilising grid infrastructure.

“We’re also proud to be able to incentivise energy storage uptake by boosting the return on investment of battery installation and maximising value for customers.

“With Orange Power’s expertise in energy aggregation, we can help our customers unlock the full potential of their assets via access to the rapidly growing grid services market.”

Orange Power will now become a standalone entity within the GivEnergy Software division, bringing its core team together with founder Justin Ma.

Justin said: “We are excited to bring our industry knowledge and experience to the GivEnergy Group.

“The deal will allow us to join forces in offering tailored grid services designed specifically for the commercial sector. This is undoubtedly a market poised for growth, as businesses seek to increase their energy efficiency and capitalise on renewable energy investments.

“Together, we can deliver substantial returns for partners while driving innovation and battery adoption in the renewable energy industry.”
