Staff from two of North Staffordshire’s biggest names in business raised more than £7,000 in their latest football match inspired by a colleague battling leukaemia.
A team from Michelin took on a group from JCB in a match at the Michelin Athletic Club, in Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent, to support blood cancer charity Leukaemia Care.
It was organised by Michelin employee Brian Bennett, who was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in October 2021, and his brother Ken who works for JCB Heavy Products in Uttoxeter.
The pair arranged a similar match last year, raising £12,000.
This time, Michelin came out top winning the game 6-1 – and the company has been thanked for its level of support.
Brian, pictured above with his son Jake, said: “Over 200 people enjoyed a great day with £7,260 raised so far and a little more to come in.
“The total includes two large lump sums from Michelin’s charity match funding – a company initiative for all employees who engage in fundraising for registered charities.
“They then donated a further £1,800 from an employee welfare/team building fund which the teams chose to give to the charity instead.
“Michelin’s supports means the world and, to be honest, its humbling – not only with the cash donations but the support personally as I go through my treatment.”
A team from Crewe’s Bentley Motors was due to take part in this year’s game but had to pull out before the event.
