Up to 40 jobs are set to be created at a new Japanese restaurant dishing up authentic cuisine in Stoke-on-Trent.
Businessman Edward Cayton has chosen the Goods Yard development in Stoke as the place to launch new brand Panko & Sushi.
Expected to open by the end of October this year, the venue will serve sushi, ramen, katsu curry, bao buns and teriyaki dishes.
Keeping the nearby student population in mind, there will also be bento boxes and lunch deals on offer.
The venture is expected to create around 30 to 40 jobs from general managers to line chefs, sushi chefs and front of house roles.
It will be able to seat around 60 people inside with more outside during the summer months. Takeaways will also be available.
Edward has worked in the hospitality industry for 27 years, mainly in Manchester.
His experience includes time at Spinningfields restaurant Australasia and taking over Manchester’s first Teppanyaki restaurant. He previously ran two eateries in Congleton – Skew-up and Yankees Burgers – and was a managing partner of Zumuku Sushi.
Edward told Daily Focus: “Although I have many years experience in this field, those are with different companies and brands. This is the first of Panko & Sushi.
“There is hardly any competition in this area with our type of cuisine and offering so I’m confident it will be a success.
“There are thousands of students literally across the road so I will be tailoring my menu and price points to ensure their budgets are accommodated.”
He also said: “We’ve always believed in finding neighbourhoods with real character and buzz, and Goods Yard has that in spades. There’s a great energy and community vibe here – it’s the perfect spot for Panko & Sushi to land in Stoke. We can’t wait to open our doors and start serving up fresh, flavour-packed dishes to our new neighbours.”
Panko & Sushi is taking over a 1,650 sq ft commercial unit on the ground floor of the Goods Yard apartment building.
The Capital&Centric development features 174 design-led rental homes, 30,000 sq ft of workspace and spaces for independent bars, restaurants, coffee shops and stores.
Daily Focus recently reported that independent coffee shop and sandwich business Cotton is set to open there and that property agent Avison Young will relocate its Stoke-on-Trent team there.
