A long-established Newcastle-under-Lyme nightspot has reopened under a new name and independent ownership.
Reflex, on Ironmarket, has been taken on by long-standing manager Kelly Freeman who has relaunched it as Vibez, opening the doors on Friday night.
Kelly has given the premises a refreshed look and says becoming an independent business owner has given her greater control of how the venue is run, allowing her to tailor the experience even more closely to her customers.
Drinks offers remain in place, with some prices reduced as a result of being able to manage the supply chain directly.
Kelly said: “I’ve managed the venue here for years and it’s always felt like more than just a job.
“I love this bar, I love Newcastle-under-Lyme and I know my customers. Taking it on as my own was a big step, but I truly believe in the business and in the town, so it felt like the right time.”
She added: “It’s still the same much-loved music, from the 80s through to 00s, the same karaoke nights, the same welcoming atmosphere. Our customers range across generations, my oldest regular is 75 and that’s something I’m really proud of.
“I’ve been able to keep things as local as possible, from hygiene to professional services. The local economy matters to me. Newcastle works best when businesses support each other.”
Previously operated by Stonegate Group, the venue has previously been known as Smiths, The Star and Boozy Dog.
Its Grade II-listed building has been formally protected since 1972.
