New office accommodation for up to 50 businesses with space for 300 workstations has been created following a £1.5 million investment into transforming a former Midlands Electricity Board and NHS building.
Heron House, in Stoke-on-Trent, is the second office development in the city by flexible workspace provider BusinessLodge, and it officially opened last week.
The 20,000 sq ft premises in Heron Cross have created five jobs and welcomed nine business already – with more on the way.
Phase one of the development has seen the ground floor transformed with a new reception area and 21 offices created.
The next phase is due to be completed in the coming weeks, providing approximately 20 co-working spaces, while the final part of the project, taking place this summer, will add another 20 offices of varying sizes.
BusinessLodge Managing Director Kate Holt said at the opening event: “It’s a big year for us. What better way to celebrate our 25th year than officially opening Heron House? We’ve already shown people round who used to work here, and they couldn’t believe the transformation.
“We’ve revived what was a tired, old-fashioned building into modern, flexible workspace giving businesses here a real opportunity to be part of a vibrant business community at a very affordable price.
She added: “It’s great to see several businesses already settled in, and we are confident Heron House will continue to support opportunities, jobs, and growth in the Stoke-on-Trent economy as we complete the remaining phases.”
The new office space is being used by GMT Health Care Services, Roberto’s Pizza House, NGEN Financial Planning, Emily Nicholls Counselling, KI Transport, Browns Physiotherapy and Wellness, Astro Education, Logomize and True Physio.
Astro Education has relocated to Heron House from Cheadle.
Benefits of the new base include a dedicated gym, secure parking, break out spaces, a grab and go snack bar and meeting rooms for hire. There is also a virtual office service available and dogs are welcome on site.
Heron House is the second office space opened by BusinessLodge. Its first, Trent House, opened in Fenton in 2019.
Astro Education’s Managing Director Tim Howarth said: “Prior to moving into the BusinessLodge, we operated from a traditional 12-month leased office in Cheadle with no reception, facilities, or flexibility to move into larger suites as our business grew.
“Having access to these facilities has made a significant difference for both our team and visitors, and the professional, friendly welcome provided by Paula, Sarah and their team have been outstanding.”
