Public invited to shape future of historic Spode Works site

Local businesses and residents have been invited to have their say on proposals to transform a historic pottery site before formal plans are submitted.

Social impact developer Capital&Centric has launched consultation on phase one of its plans for Spode Works, in Stoke-on-Trent, which include a new public walking route through the China Halls, the proposed demolition of Gordon House and the extension of the Spode Rose Garden.

A drop-in event on Thursday, 26 March is taking place at the China Halls between 3pm and 7pm, with free pizza, pints and padel.

The developer is working with Stoke-on-Trent City Council on the project, which it says will retore the historic buildings to bring them back into life while carefully removing parts of the site that are beyond repair.

Tom Wilmot, Managing Director at Capital&Centric said: “Spode Works is packed with proper Stoke history and character, so the aim is simple – keep what makes it special and open it up so people can actually enjoy it again.

“Phase one gets the ball rolling with new public spaces, places to eat and drink, and even spaces for sport. We’d love locals to pop down, grab a slice and a pint, and tell us what they think.”

There is no need to book for the event.

Feedback will help shape plans before they are submitted to the city council. The consultation is open until Monday, 6 April.

The China Halls, at Spode Works, can be found on Elenora Street in Stoke’s town centre.

The long-term vision for the site is to transform it into a ‘buzzing’ neighbourhood with new comes, independent cafes, bars, restaurants, creative workspaces and ‘lush’ public spaces.
