Dog owners invited to join trail celebrating pet-friendly businesses

1 min read

Dog owners are being invited to take part in a community trail designed to showcase Tamworth’s growing number of pet-friendly venues.

Tamworth Borough Council has launched its Dog Friendly Tamworth initiative, with a guided Dog Friendly Trail set to take place on Saturday, 9 May.

The walk, which will set off from the castle grounds at 11am, will be led by local dog trainer and behaviourist Chelsie, from Train with Chelsie, who will offer practical advice and support to owners throughout the route.

Participants will have the chance to meet other dog owners, explore dog-friendly businesses across the town and pick up tips from an expert along the way. Exclusive offers will also be available at selected stops, with those completing the trail able to collect a sticker for their event flyer.

A digital map will guide walkers along the route, highlighting participating venues, before finishing at Tamworth Castle gatehouse where dog treats, including ice cream and puppuccinos, will be available to purchase.

Stephen Gabriel, chief executive of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “We’re thrilled to support our Dog Friendly Tamworth initiative with this fun, community-focused trail. It’s a fantastic opportunity for residents to connect, enjoy the outdoors, find dog friendly shops and cafes, and learn from a local expert while celebrating the bond we share with our dogs.”

Dog owners taking part are asked to ensure their pets are comfortable around people and other dogs, kept on standard non-retractable leads and given space where needed.

Special activities will also be available on the day, including the chance to create a keepsake paw print tile at Paint Pot Studio, while Castle Notions will be offering a free handmade dog bandana for each dog completing the trail, subject to availability.

Businesses interested in joining the Dog Friendly Tamworth initiative can register via the council’s website, where further details about the trail and other activities are also available.
