New skills bootcamps launch

1 min read

Two new intensive bootcamps have been announced for adults looking to improve their digital skills or learn more about domestic retrofit and property maintenance.

The Spark Group, in Stoke-on-Trent, is running the programmes with June and October starts in partnership with Staffordshire County Council

Part of a national initiative, they are designed to upskill people in areas of work considered to be a priority for employers.

The digital workshops, largely held at Keele University, will include sessions on the use of apps, AI, and content creation for websites and social media.

The domestic retrofit and property maintenance course at the Spark Group’s Hanley headquarters, is designed to introduce people to the skills needed to work in the growing low carbon construction sector.

Delegates will learn about energy efficiency, the need to retrofit homes for a low carbon future and will develop their property maintenance skills.

Dan Canavan, managing director of the Spark Group, said: “Each course is free to attend if you are either unemployed or self-employed. There’s a 10 percent charge for SMEs who want to put an employee through a skills bootcamp.

“Anyone looking to attend either bootcamp will have to commit 10 days of their time, on one day a week.”

He added: “The Spark Group is perhaps best known for supporting young people, such as apprentices, and we’re keen to expand our offer to workers of all ages. Winning this contract gives us an opportunity to support local residents as they prepare for the future job market.”
