Luxury Staffordshire hotel unveils £150,000 wellness expansion

1 min read

More than £150,000 is being invested into a luxury hotel’s wellness offering as it expands its facilities and plans further additions for next year.

The Tawny has opened a new sauna and is preparing to open a new steam room this autumn alongside an expanding calendar of yoga, Pilates and nature-led experiences.

The investment is expected to support the hotel’s future growth and potentially create new jobs.

The ‘deconstructed’ hotel featuring treehouses, shepherds’ huts, boathouses and retreat suites is set within 70 acres of rewilded gardens, woodland and lakes in Consall, in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Its existing facilities include a heated outdoor pool and a treatment room, while its bedrooms have been designed to make the most of the surrounding landscape.

General Manager Josh Chadwick said: “Nature has always done a lot of the hard work for us at The Tawny. With 70 acres of woodland, lakes and wildlife on the doorstep, you naturally slow down as soon as you arrive.

“The new sauna and steam room mean we can now offer guests much more of a complete wellness experience alongside the outdoor pool, treatments and everything there is to do across the estate.

“The response to our wellness events this year has been fantastic, showing us that guests are increasingly looking for experiences that help them properly switch off. It’s something we’re really excited to continue developing over the next two years.

“We want The Tawny to be somewhere you come away from feeling like you’ve properly switched off.”

The sauna overlooks The Tawny’s picturesque grounds.

The new sauna features a long timber bench set in front of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the grounds with background music adding to the relaxed setting.

The new Rousseau’s Cave Steam Room also draws on the history of the estate. The space has been clad in sandstone reclaimed from nearby Wootton Hall, where philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau famously wrote part of his Confessions in 1766. Soft lighting and aromatic essences give the steam room a more contemporary feel while retaining links to the site’s past.

The Tawny is also expanding its calendar of curated wellness events, with previous sessions including Pilates & Plunge and a Full Moon Ritual featuring a floating sound bath in the outdoor heated pool at sunset.

The next event, The Soft Reset, will take place on 10 September and will combine outdoor yoga overlooking the estate with time to use the hotel’s wellness facilities. The experience will also include lunch at The Plumicorn, the hotel’s three-AA Rosette restaurant, with wellness drinks made using foraged ingredients and produce from the kitchen garden.

Further spa and wellness additions are planned for 2027.

In spring, Guided Forest Bathing Meditation will draw on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, taking guests into the surrounding ancient woodland for a sensory experience focused on the sights, sounds and scents of the natural environment before returning to the hotel’s wellness facilities.
