A Staffordshire waste business launched just three years ago has expanded into construction enabling works and is now taking on projects across the UK.
Barlaston-based Sixtowns Waste Ltd, founded by entrepreneur Ben Trickett, has developed from a waste collection and disposal business into a contractor providing strip-outs, site clearance and preparation work for builders, developers, architects and property managers.
The company’s recent projects include a washroom strip-out at a school in Chipping Norton, West Oxfordshire, where Sixtowns removed four toilets ahead of refurbishment work.
Because the school remained open, the project required an enhanced DBS-checked team and additional logistical planning.
Founder Ben Trickett said: “The business has now evolved into offering strip-out and site clearance projects to support builders, architects, developers, property managers and building maintenance teams.
“It was a significant project for Sixtowns Waste as we had to manage the logistics of working in a school, sourcing a trusted team to work at long distance, and prepare the building for upcoming work. It should prove significant in our growth moving forward.”
The company has also carried out ground preparation work for new outdoor facilities at the Peter Pan Centre for Children with Special Needs.
Closer to home, Sixtowns has worked with North Staffordshire-based Powell Design and Construction on enabling works ahead of a major residential project, including a full strip-out, asbestos removal and site clearance.
Powell Design and Construction managing director Alexandra Powell said the preparatory work allowed its construction team to start immediately.
She said: “The result was a build team that could hit the ground running on day one, with no hidden surprises and no delays waiting for specialist contractors to catch up.”
Trickett said the company can now take buildings back to brick where required and bring in specialist contractors for work including asbestos removal.
He added that the expansion had grown from identifying a gap for a single contractor capable of coordinating the often fragmented work required before a main construction project can begin.
