Titanic Brewery has unveiled plans for a new town centre bar in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The Stoke-on-Trent firm is seeking planning permission to transform the former Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) building on High Street into a bar with capacity for up to 80 people.
The proposed wet-led venue would occupy around 125 sq ft of currently vacant commercial floorspace, with limited snacks also available.
Dave Bott, Director of Titanic Brewery said: “We are delighted to have submitted this planning application and to take the next step towards bringing this fantastic building back into use.
“Our vision is to create a warm and friendly space and to bring Titanic beers to the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme. The building has a great deal of character, and we are excited about the opportunity to transform it into a vibrant social space while respecting its heritage.
“We believe this investment will make a positive contribution to Newcastle-under-Lyme, helping to increase footfall, support the local economy and enhance the town’s evening and night-time economy.”
The former RBS branch in Newcastle closed in 2018 as part of a series of branch cuts across England and Wales.
The building has also been used as a co-working space known as The Wheelhouse.
Plans for the proposed venue include a new bar, small kitchen, glass-washing facility, and alterations to the existing basement toilets.
Proposed opening hours are 11am until midnight, seven days a week.
The first and second floors of the building will remain in residential use.
A planning statement submitted with the application reads: “The proposal would bring vacant commercial floorspace back into active use and introduce an appropriate leisure and hospitality use within an established town-centre environment.”
The plans are being considered by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.
Titanic Brewery operates nine pubs, including The Greyhound on George Street in Newcastle.

Greyhound is in Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, the building next door is in Newcastle.
Hi Paul,
I originally thought Hartshill when writing the story but Titanic’s website gives the pub’s address as Newcastle and references it as a Newcastle pub.
