Hundreds of men will benefit from prostate testing thanks to fundraising by law firm Myers & Co.
The Stoke-on-Trent headquartered company raised £2,600 in the 12 months to June, which has now been donated to the North Staffs Prostate Cancer Support Group.
The sum was raised through initiatives such as tombolas, a 10-mile walking challenge, raffles, a bake-off competition and an Asian food feast organised by team members.
It will go towards funding PSA testing evenings held by Stoke-on-Trent Lions Club and Uttoxeter Lions Club, which usually test up to 500 men.
PSA testing can identify potential prostate problems, which can then be investigated by doctors.
Clive Stevenson, co-founder and chairman of the North Staffs Prostate Cancer Support Group, said: “The money raised by Myers & Co will make a huge difference to our ability to support local men.
“These sessions are increasingly important following the government’s restrictions on the categories of men eligible to request a PSA test.
“The team at Myers & Co put a huge amount of effort into raising money for our group. Their enthusiasm and generosity are a wonderful example of the support our local community gives to men and families affected by prostate cancer, and we are extremely grateful.”
Myers & Co director Jen Goodwin, the firm’s head of corporate, said: “We chose the North Staffs Prostate Cancer Support Group because of the important work it does to support men and their families, as well as to raise awareness.
“We had a fantastic time coming up with different ways to raise money, and it was brilliant to see everyone getting involved and bringing their own ideas and enthusiasm to the cause.
“Knowing that the money we have raised will help fund PSA testing for hundreds of local men makes all the hard work worthwhile. We’re proud to be helping a group that plays such an important role in communities across Staffordshire.”
