Jobs are now up for grabs at a new Pets at Home storage and distribution centre near Stafford which is set to employ more than 750 people.
Interior fit-out works at the new office, storage and distribution development on the A34 at Redhill are nearing completion.
Now a series of roles are being advertised, based at the 670,000 sq ft. facility, including highly-skilled positions in finance and planning.
The company has also been looking for goods administrators and stock controllers, while Class 1 drivers and warehouse operatives are also being recruited.
The new personnel will join around 450 current employees relocating from Pets at Home’s current warehouse and distribution site at Trentham Lakes, Stoke-on-Trent.
A new roundabout is being built on the A34 to provide access to the development with works being funded by commercial property developer Stoford, the company who delivered the distribution centre project.
The highways scheme, which includes improved cycling and pedestrian facilities, a signalised crossing, new bus stops and improved street lighting, is scheduled for completion by this autumn.
The new national storage and distribution centre is part of the first phase of development on a 70-acre site at Stafford North Business Park.
Facilities include two double-storey hub offices of 5,600 sq ft and a recycling store, tote store and a gatehouse detached from the main building.
It is estimated the distribution centre project is worth £100 million in investment to the local economy and will generate nearly £2 million a year in business rates.
Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills Philip White said: “Pets at Home preparing to start its operations at its new Stafford site is a significant milestone and great news.
“Pets at Home will bring a range of employment opportunities to the county in the coming months, and our Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service will be on hand to support them whenever needed in reaching appropriate local candidates.”
Stafford Borough Council’s cabinet member for economic development and planning Frances Beatty said: “We are already working with our local businesses to make sure they are aware of the opportunities to provide goods and services that Pets at Home (PAH), with more than 750 employees, may require.
“The jobs PAH will need include highly skilled positions, such as in finance and planning, and highly skilled jobs are something our council has been proactively encouraging when attracting new businesses to the borough.”
