A popular Greek eatery is launching a new venue offering diners a greater variety of its much sought-after dishes.
Anasma Greek Bakery only opened two years ago but has a large group of loyal customers who travel for miles to sample its authentic food.
Now owner Marianna Anastasiou is branching out to open a bakery-come-taverna at The Trentham Estate, set to open in April.
The new venue will be over three times bigger than the current bakery in Newcastle-under-Lyme and open all day.
Diners will be able to enjoy breakfasts and its already-popular pastries, as well as traditional Greek and Cypriot lunches and meze-type food in the evening.
Marianna, pictured above, who runs the current bakery with husband Costas, said: “Our food is incredibly popular in Newcastle but it’s such a small place that we can’t offer anything more than we already do.
“At Trentham, we’ll be able to serve everything our customers already love as well as new things such as kleftiko, a slow-cooked lamb dish, which will be on the evening menu.”
Anasma will be on the site of the former Riverside café, which closed last month.
It will be open from 8.30am until 11pm, and have an alcohol licence.
“It was a bit of a spontaneous decision to open at Trentham, but our customers had been asking for somewhere bigger for a while,” added Marianna.
“It is a big step, but we think Trentham is a great place for us to be and hope to welcome many more customers to try our food.”
Marianna, aged 40, was born in Romania but grew up in Cyprus. She started baking from home not long after the couple moved to the UK in 2015 and spent several years selling pies, pastries and cakes at farmers’ markets before opening the bakery.
The Newcastle bakery, which employs seven people, will continue operating as normal.
Anasma is expected to open at The Trentham Estate on April 3, and is currently recruiting for around 15 staff members.
