Parcel firm hopes to deliver more jobs to Stafford

DHL has unveiled plans to expand its Stafford parcel depot, potentially increasing its workforce by 50 per cent.

Work at the DHL Parcel UK site is part of a wider £505 million investment plan by Deutsche Post DHL to help deliver the infrastructure to allow the business to double in size over the next seven years.

The proposed development at Tollgate Park comes following increased demand and involves extending onto vacant land to create an additional floor area of 1,580 square metres.

The site currently employs 73 people and, if plans are passed, the extension is expected to provide a further 20 to 40 jobs.

A document submitted to Stafford Borough Council with the plans states: “The proposal would deliver significant economic benefits by supporting an existing business, whilst enhancing an established employment zone.

“The proposed development will have a positive impact on the local economy by way of job creation, both temporary during the construction phase and permanent once the extension is complete.”

A design and access statement adds: “The existing premises has been occupied by DHL for approximately 10 years and has seen a steady increase in their services over that period.

“In the past two years this has increased more rapidly, due to the way we all shop and do business, generally. Due to the good location DHL do not want to move and disrupt their operations and therefore the option to extend is appealing.”
