Two more grants have been awarded to good causes as part of an initiative set up to help the local community by a North Staffordshire law firm.

RJS Solicitors, based in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent, has established the RJS Foundation to make a difference by supporting charities and not-for-profit organisations in six surrounding post code areas.

One of the latest donations has been made to Trentham Scouts Group. The group which has 90 members – including scouts, beavers and cubs – has used the money to part fund a jubilee garden.

The improved outdoor space has created a peaceful area where people can relax and meet friends. There are also plans to buy more plants which the scouts, beavers and cubs will help to plant.

A grant has also been awarded to The Gingerbread Centre, above, to help in its work supporting vulnerable, homeless families or those families at risk of becoming homeless.

The grant was used to purchase a television with built in DVD player for the centres Stoke-on-Trent-based Activity Club. It means children of the families supported by the Gingerbread Centre now have improved facilities and the opportunity to learn and play using the new equipment.

Directors of the Foundation are Stoke-on-Trent City Councillor Rachel Kelsall, Stoke-on-Trent South MP Jack Brereton, BCRS Head of Business Development Andrew Hustwit and RJS Solicitor Elliott Hodge.

So far grants have been awarded for initiatives that develop and improve local communities by tackling specific issues. These include helping voluntary and community groups become more effective and efficient, encouraging involvement in the community of those who feel excluded, and enabling young people to develop skills for the benefit of the community.

Grant support is available in the ST3, ST4, ST5, ST11, ST12 and ST15 postcode areas. For more details visit www.rjsfoundation.com
